Orchard Walk

Assemble from 2pm for 2.30pm start. OL members and friends and families only.

Location:   Bradford Barton, Witheridge, near Tiverton, EX16 8QQ.

We have been invited to visit the orchards of the Huckle family at Bradford Barton. (Some  OL members will remember this beautiful farm and both old and new orchards from our pruning and budding events, 2003).  Nic van Grunsven, (who recently joined our Committee having worked as a horticulturalist in Dutch orchards), will lead the walk and will stop to assess the soil in relation to the current growth of the fruit trees. He will also look at insects. Other topics of interest will be discussed! If you could bring a spade we could dig a few holes to study the depth of soil, physical obstructions and texture. If you have insects, bring them along for identification and study. Then a cup of tea!

Directions:  Bradford Barton (Map Ref 823168) is three miles north-east of Witheridge, just off the Witheridge to Rackenford road. We will sign it. The Two Moors Way passes the farm.

Fee: No fee and no need to book - just turn up.
